Six Haikus of Malay Roychoudhury translated by Arunava Sinha

Spring in Netherlands

Swarms of bees

knock at the door

The girl’s floating corpse~

Leaning out to see

The sky spread across the wind

Taillights just like blood~

Her hands on her hips

Emperor Ashoka weeps

Black and freezing rocks~

Crematorium

Coils of smoke and darting shrimps

The Buddha walks by~

Someone’s dead body

Hanging from the ceiling fan

There’s a male spider ~

Memories of thieves

Tagore’s slippers on the shelf

Much too large in size
